For seasonal flu vaccines that will be developed for use in the southern hemisphere in 2010, the World Health Organization recommends replacing the H1N1 strain in the current seasonal flu vaccine with a pandemic influenza A(H1N1) strain.
The three strains recommended by the WHO for inclusion in the southern hemisphere 2010 influenza vaccine are: A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus, A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus, and B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus. The information was included in a WHO report released Sept 23.
The pandemic H1N1 virus was the dominant flu strain circulating in most of the world by July 2009, the WHO said in its technical report on the 2010 strain recommendations.
“Although it is impossible to know whether the seasonal influenza A(H1N1) viruses will be completely replaced by the pandemic influenza A(H1N1) virus, the group of experts convened by WHO for this consultation consider it likely that seasonal influenza A(H1N1) will not pose a major public health risk in 2010 in the southern hemisphere,” the WHO said in a question-and-answer statement.
The WHOs Strategic Group of Experts (SAGE) will meet in late October to discuss whether the three strains should be combined into a single trivalent vaccine or whether separate vaccines should be developed for seasonal and pandemic flu, according to the statement. The priority groups for the seasonal and pandemic flu differ slightly, which raises the possibility of two separate vaccines next year.
A majority of the H1N1 viruses seen so far have been sensitive to the neuraminidase inhibitors oseltamivir and zanamivir, according to the technical report. The WHO will make recommendations in February 2010 for flu vaccines for use in the northern hemisphere in 2010.

WHO推荐的2010年南半球流感疫苗所包含的3种病毒株为:A型/California/7/2009 (H1N1)类似株、A型/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)类似株和B型/Brisbane/60/2008类似株。
